Sheltered english instruction principles8/16/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Course participants will explore research-based effective educational practices based on ten guiding principles or language development to maximize the potential of Els in schools and beyond graduation. There is also a fourth principle: ELs need. The home language can be used to promote academic development. Whether in-person or virtually, course participants will discover how to provide meaningful and rigorous lessons and assessments while facilitating an environment in which the social and emotional needs of ELs are nurtured. ELs require additional instructional supports. ![]() This course is designed to help educators provide a high-quality and equitable educational experience for English learners (ELs) that values and nurtures cultural diversity. Sheltered Instruction teachers make the content comprehensible through techniques such as the use of visual aids, modeling, demonstrations, graphic organizers, vocabulary previews, predictions, adapted texts, cooperative learning, peer tutoring, multicultural content, and native language support.
